For our purposes in English 102, we are defining big “C” Culture as one’s nationality, race, ethnicity and religion. You may identify yourself with one or more groups within each of these categories. Conversely, you may not identify yourself with a group from one or two of these categories. Take some time to think about how you see yourself and how others see you. How has your Culture or Cultures shaped who you are and how you view the world? To answer this question, it may be helpful to compare yourself to a person or people of a different Culture. Also, do others make assumptions about you based on your Culture or Cultures that are not necessarily true?
Every country has its own culture and tradition. Culture is essential for our individual survival. We rely on culture because we are not born with the information we need to survive.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. I was raised to be a Jehovah Witness, but once I got old enough, I changed my religion to christianity. Growing up as a Jehovah Witness, my parents were very strict, whereas though I couldnt hang outside with children. With this religion, we didnt celebrate any holidays including birthdays. People on the outside looking in we'll see me as a weird person, because I was child not celebrating christmas, birthdays etc.
Being a Christian, we celebrate birthdays and holidays. Its a tradition to cook every holiday. There are certain beliefs we believe in. Its was also tradition in my family dress up on holidays and to spend the holidays together as a family. I would say American have the best Nationality because its core values are better.(freedom) I speak English. We have a lot of different values then o ther. Its very important to us to finish school, achievement and success, freedom and liberty.
Being an American, food is a universal type of material. Most americans eat chicken. I love chicken. American Food is very tastefu. Seeing as though that this society we live in is very Diverse, there is a mixture of different type religion people practiced.

Unit Zero
Do you like your name?
Does your first name carry any special meaning to your family or you?
Who named you?
Do you have a nickname?
What is the origin of your last name?
Was your last name ever changed at some point during your family history?
Well my name is Sherelle Davis, I didnt liked my name when i was younger but as I got older, my name grew on me. People would pronounce my name wrong and that can be a bit annoying. Some people would make fun of my name such as She-rel-le. I like my name now because its spelled differently from others. My mother named me Sherelle because she was a big fan of the girl group "The Shirelles". My mother just spelled my name a little different. The Shirelles was one of the first of the late fifties and early sixties. They were 16 and 17 year olds from Passaia, New Jersey. During my mother pregnancy she use to play The Shirells a lot, and set the speakers by her stomach. My mother told me I was dancing in her stomach.
I have a lot of nicknames. Instead of calling me Sherelle a lot of people preferred to call me Rell for short. Some people just call me by my last name because its very easy to pronounce. I don't really care for my last name. I have my father last name Davis. Its a common last name, there is a lot of Davis on my father side and the family tree is steady growing.
